Kastor and Pollux: FW 2013

Photos by Bianca Venerayan

long time ago when I was still filming my street style web-series Je Suis TV, I spotted a girl on queen in the most amazing red patent leather (Chloe) boots I had ever seen! That's how I met Danielle Roche of Kastor and Pollux, Canadian fashion designer / blogger / street-style star. She and Bianca Venerayan are internet famous for pairing up their outfits much like the Gemini twins their line is named after.  It seems only fitting that they would take their sartorial know-how to the drawing board!

They've been working hard on their most recent line, and although small (only 8 pieces, the possibilities are almost endless!) Check out this GIF for the mind-blowing outfit combinations:

NYFW SS14 FOMO: Day 1

Since going to NYFW is only a fantasy for me at this point in my career (too busy! life is too crazy! too expensive! excuses), it seems only fit that my favourite cartoon characters from days of old get to go. Swagger New York illustrated this series with Italian designer Michele Moricci. But why did they choose Angela from Rugrats? Isn't she in some kind of a most annoying cartoon characters list?.

For Love and Lemons Pure Dress

It's been a while since I've seen something that takes my breath away, but this Pure dress from For Love and Lemons totally does it for me. Sold out on Nasty Gal, I zipped over to TheTrendBoutique.com to scoop up my size!  At least with this white, I can get away with a stain. I spill so much I should invest in this NEVERWET  spray. Though, if I bought that, I'd just get dirty on purpose! Watch the video, and be prepared to be hypnotised:

Partyskirts FW 2013 Lookbook

image via SkotApparel.com

Girly girls love skirts. I can vouch for this tribe, since wearing a  circle/skater/party skirt gives me a big Sailor Moon personality punch.  I learned about Partyskirts through Fashionmagazine.com's Prom guide, (It was for work! I swear!) and saw their ultra adorable lookbook for spring 2013.  You don't have to be in high school to appreciate these minis. Made from dupioni silk, the skirts have an eye-catching sheen and strong structure.

Kenzo AW13 Lookbook

It's kind of ridiculous to be thinking of Fall the high heat of the summer, but here we are with Kenzo's deliciously surreal lookbook.  Creative directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim worked on their latest images with Maurizio Cattelan, Pierpaolo Ferrari and Micol Talso of Toilet Paper Magazine. The ads star actress Rinko Kikuchi and model Sean O’Pry. Click through for pictures of kittens in shoes...

The Bling Ring : Most disappointing movie of the summer

You know when you're really excited to see a movie, so much that, you get your friends amped up too? You talk about it forever, and when the time comes to see it, it doesn't hold up? I did this to my friend Lauren, and it was so embarrassing. As in, I'd look at her every time something "kind of" funny happened to gauge her reaction. At least the air conditioning was awesome.

My anticipation for the Bling Ring didn't ruin this movie for me, it ruined itself. All of the best parts were in the trailers. Maybe it's just what we're used to these days, quick editing and fast transitions with snappy, charming and witty characters. Unlike Coppola's earlier films that are heartbreaking and visually interesting, this movie was making me feel embarrassed for the characters.

I don't understand how it got 61% on Rotten Tomatoes. Are reporters afraid of Sofia Coppola? Really?

The only scene I enjoyed was the robbery of Audrina Patridge's house, which slow panned in while the two main thieves Rebecca and Marc whizzed around the glass cube of a house like a couple of rats in a maze.

Rachel Bilson and Mischa Barton both have protested this movie (which made me want to see it more), for "ethical" reasons, but they really should have just seen it and told us how bad it was going to be if they didn't want us to watch it.

I'm going to stick to sci- fi flicks for instant movie watching gratification. Pacific Rim is out, and their mindless monsters actually look interesting

Lily Lizards

If you were a little smarty pants this week, you would have seen that velociraptors had invaded Vogue.uk! Maybe they're promoting Jurassic Park 4? If you're familiar with the Konami code, you could get a little dino in a surprise chapeau whizzing by on your screen. Sadly, the're extinct from the internet, but have been preserved in screen shots for future generations. I'm not really a hat person, and I don't miss them pushing their style in my face.

I gave the old code a shot, and the best hat I could get was this little red Aretha Franklin type bow pillbox. My first go was a tan knit tuque (not worth a screen capture)!  Scroll down for more lily lizards Isabella Blow would be proud of:

Isabel Marant for H&M: She makes clothes that girls WANT to wear

photo via Isabel Marant's Instagram

I have yet to buy anything from H&M's designer collections. Maybe it's the hype, or the frenzy it strikes, but something about mass shopping crazes really puts me off shopping. I'd love to be able to find a piece that fits me that I wouldn't regret buying, but it just hasn't happened yet. I even shopped the sale racks for MMM x H&M, and despite availability, I wasn't tempted.  Hopefully, this next collaboration with Isabel Marant will be a real winner. If H&M could bring e-commerce to Canada in time for November, it would take so much stress out of shopping! The only stress you'd get would be from sweaty hands on your credit card.

The first look from the collection popped up today, and I'm feeling kinda "meh" on this tunic. Marant's not about wow factor though, she's more about sensual-chic. You wouldn't know it by her FacebookTwitter or Instagram pages but, Marant's got major influence in fashion at least at a retailer level. "She makes clothes that girls want to wear" said Style.com's Nicole Phelps.

Get down with Miu Miu FW2013

Directed by the always amazing Inez & Vinoodh, Miu Miu's most recent fashion film is BAD ASS. The models are getting down in polka-dots! Starring Adriana Lima, Anne Verhallen, Daphne Groeneveld, Emily Di Donato, Georgia May Jagger, Hind Sahli, Kaitlin Aas, Lindsey Wixson and Marina Nery. Into the beat? So am I, but it isn't "Hand Clapping Song" by The Meters, like they say it is at the end of the video.

I did a little internet sleuthing to see the song was by the meters. Apparently they probably had the models dancing to this song below while shooting, and re-edited it with new music. play the Miu Miu video on mute, and play this song below to see how it probably might have looked before the last minute edit. Personally, I like their original song better! I can't stop listening to it this morning, just boogyin' in my cubicle.

The Men Under The Influence...

Can I please wear this outfit?

I came across these photos by Jon Uriarte, who photographed men in their girlfriends/wives/partners clothing. My first reaction was to giggle, but the photo series is (to me, at least) explaining modern relationships.  I told my boyfriend about the photo series, to which he replied, "No way am I putting on your shoes". Pssh. He should be so lucky.

Actual Beat Up Feet: Julianne Moore

"Clarice, you have very shapely feet" - Hannibal

Julianne Moore is struggling with 'sammich toes in Cannes. Girl, I know you love your silver shoes, but give them a little test before you hit the red carpet. Those piggies want to RUN all the way home! Story via Fashionista.com.

Quicksilver

As you can tell by my fantastic photoshop job, I'm only a little bit obsessed with these silver platforms from Nine West last season. At 6 inches in chrome faux-leather, they're the kind of shoe that grabs you by the iris. When they first came out I wasn't 100% about diving into the space stripper trend, put best by Raezz of Cheapthrills

After seeing so many great outfits and editorials, I had to have them. Luckily for me, my obsession was sated when I saw the shoes at one of the Nine West Shoe Studio Outlet stores for half the price (not online, you've gotta make the trip) I was sold! Now I can wear these badboys with just about anything I want to! I have yet to wear it post photos, but as soon as I get a G Series Powershot, I'll be up and running walking quickly.

Scroll down for some more stand out photos of the shoe, making my high heel dreams come true on my budget.

Wes Anderson for Prada

May I just say, it's about time that Wes Anderson got on this? Back in October, I got into Suzy Bishop's  angsty beret, all in the name of Mr. Wes Anderson. He finally took the hint and got into fashion! Not design as I'd hoped, but with Prada for their 12 second short commercials for Prada Candy. I really do wish they were longer than they are, but Anderson's staccato shorts are sweet enough to match the scent's style.  Léa Seydoux should be able to score a scene or two in his next film, don't you think?

Kirna Zabête for Nine West

Kirna Zabete Bandeau Ostrich shoes $129.00USD

I am a shoe fiend. I really don't know where to put them all. When I found out that these feathered shoes from Kirna Zabête were going to be happening, I knew I had to get my hands on them. (Street style photogs at Toronto Fashion Week, you will not be able to deny me!) There's definitely a WHAT factor about them, if not a little boudoir. I actually set an alarm on my phone to remind me to get on to the Kirna Zabête website this morning to beat the pack, and it paid off! Canadian shoppers can get a hold of this collection at www.kirnazabete.com

Check out more shoes from the collection after the jump!
